reasons why I shouldn't get online when I'm sick.

Me and my boyfriend have an adorable game where I pretend to be ‘just a big fan’ of his acting and he pretends that he doesn’t know I exist.

Night’s Cover

Under the dark night’s cover anything was possible; you could even pretend that things were back to how they used to be. Even now when the government enforced strict codes of conduct and 9pm curfews, everything felt possible, if only under the nights disguise. A shadow could barely be seen running through the night. A person could easily disappear amongst other shadows if they felt someone watching. Dealings were becoming more and more common, but it was all kept secret.  Books passed from hand to hand, careful to never ruin the covers. Secret meetings were held in empty, abandoned buildings and secret rooms in houses, hotels and schools.

The person slipped from one shadow to the next, rushing to the meeting place; the back of an old video store. Video rental stores had been shut down for fear of piracy. Web café’s had been closed down to ensure that not even one citizen was able to go around the censorships. No one was allowed access to online movie sites, or to fan fiction sites, all the social networks sites were either censored or shut down.  More people where leaving the country every passing day, and those who left usually had taken it upon themselves to become suppliers for those who stayed behind.

Fanfiction was on demand, especially amongst Harry Potter fans. Those could keep the business up all by themselves. They passed them inside books, hidden inside the covers, hidden behind mirrors or carpets. Some suppliers had taken it amongst themselves to create a code for the meetings. They wrote on book covers, telling the reader to go to another page, and that page lead them to another, and another. Some people gave up after the first fifty pages, but the die-hards made it through the entire books, just to find out when the next reading was, or where the suppliers would be selling.

The person running through the shadows almost gave up their hiding just to get to their seller faster. She had heard some rumors of a new fanfic which was supposed to be amazing, and she knew she just had to get her hands on it. She just had to. Her heartbeat started pounding in her ears as her eyes fell upon the building where she would be meeting her supplier. Throwing caution to the wind, she ran through the dark, empty streets until she was at the door. She walked in without knocking, and smiled when she saw her supplier. It was a college student, like most suppliers, kids who had dropped out because selling pirate movies, banned books and fanfictions proved to be more lucrative than studying full time at any university. “Do you have it?” she asked, her voice a soft whisper, knowing that he would hear her. “Yeah, and it’s yours for only ten dollars. I also have some new work from your favorite authors. Twenty dollars in all.”

Rushing forward, she reached him, handing him some loose bills and taking the fanfiction from his hands. It was in her hands, it was finally in her hands. Now she could curl up at home and read. But she knew she had to pace herself. She had to make it last so that it wouldn’t be over soon. She knew it would be at least two more weeks before their next meeting. Sighing happily she turned towards the door and walked out. She could walk home now, knowing she had her precious treasure in her hands and nothing could bring her down.
